Soho House – Spuistraat 210, Amsterdam

Soho House Amsterdam in the Bungehuis on the Spuistraat.

The ‘Bungehuis’ was built in the 1930s originally as a Trading Office, as of the 70s it has served as a university building. The six-story ‘National’ monument is characterized by numerous expressive details. For example, the front and rear of the property are covered with slabs of limestone and granite, and the entrance is flanked by art deco sculptures. The ten window axes that feature on the front and the rear of the property include bays with bronze framed windows. The interior includes special features through the use of chrome, brass, milk glass and tropical timber as well as glazed tiles of the ‘Porceleyne Fles’ in Delft.

Soho House was founded in London, in 1995, as a private members’ club for those associated with the film, media and creative industries. It offers a platform for her members (both from the local and international creative industries) to meet, work, exchange ideas, network, eat, sleep and relax. At this stage, Soho House has 12 Houses worldwide. The group has a focused expansion program, as its main aim is to find unique locations.

Amsterdam Soho House is planned to be located in the Bungehuis. Its Club space, the focal point of the operation, will be located on the top floor. This space has the atmosphere of a hotel lobby. It is the main space where the members mingle, work, conduct meetings and meet each other. Furthermore Soho House Amsterdam will offer a gym, a screening room (small movie theatre), a games room, and a restaurant for members, 79 hotel rooms, a library and a roof terrace. The hotel rooms will be mainly used by its circa 45,000 members world-wide.

On the ground floor, open to the public, will be Cecconi’s – a modern day classic Italian restaurant, originated in Venice and well known from its outposts in London, West Hollywood and Miami. In addition the ground floor will host Meeting & Event spaces and a Spa & Wellness centre from Soho’s own concept ‘The Cowshed’ with retail space. Members of the Club, hotel guests and guests of the restaurant and Spa will make use of the existing entrances. Loading and unloading will be internal. Large inhouse bike storage will be added.
